Grand Master Spencer Brandt died unexpectedly on February 28, 2012. 

Services will be: 

 Sunday, March 4th, 2012 3-8 pm at the Bemidji School of TaeKwonDo (1008 Washington Ave S, Bemidji)

                              Open to the public, all former and current martial arts students  Monday, March 5th, 2012 at 2 pm at Faith Baptist Church (2531 Roosevelt Rd SE, Bemidji)

Spencer Carl Brandt, 44, of Onigum, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.  He was born in Minneapolis, on June 29, 1967 the son of Richard and Margaret (Luster) Brandt.

Spencer graduated from Perham High School in 1986 and Bemidji State University in 1992 with a BS Degree in Technical Illustration/ Graphic Design and an Emphasis in Model Building.

Married Cindy (Feist) in Bismarck, North Dakota on October 24, 1992 and had two beautiful children, Morgan and Autumn.

Grand Master Spencer dedicated his life to the development and promotion of the Martial Arts, specifically the Korean Arts of Tae Kwon Do, Kumdo, and Hapkido.

He opened his 1st Martial Arts school in Perham at the age of 16 (this school still continues today), then moved to Bemidji to attend BSU and started another Martial Arts school in 1986.

He attained Triple Master status by reaching the rank of 7th Degree in Tae Kwon Do, 4th Degree in Kumdo, and 4th Degree in Hapkido. He was the youngest person to atttain the rank of Grand Master at the time of rank in 2006, and is the 1st American (caucasion) to be inducted into the World Chang Moo Kwan Hall of Fame in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Brandt, both paternal and maternal grandparents.

Spencer is survived by his son Morgan age 16, daughter Autumn age 12, both of Bemidji, father Richard of St. Cloud, sister Dr. Nancy Brandt of Las Vegas, 5 nieces, and 4 nephews.

A visitation for Spencer will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 3:00-8:00 pm at the Bemidji School of Tae Kwon Do, 1008 Washington Ave S, Bemidji.  All public, former and current Tae Kwon Do Students are welcome.

A memorial service for the Onigum Community will be held at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, March 4, 2012 at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. Two Bulls officiating.

A memorial service for the Bemidji and surrounding communities will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Faith Baptist Church, 2531 Roosevelt Rd SE, Bemidji, MN

An account for Spencer's minor children has been set up at the Deerwood Bank in Bemidji, MN.  In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Deerwood Bank in Care of Morgan and Autumn, 1350 Paul Bunyan Drive NW, Bemidji, MN 56601.
